Find out what a mammogram involves and what you should know about checking your breasts

To mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, we're highlighting a useful resource produced by Merseyside & Cheshire Cancer Network. Your guide to breast screening is a straightforward look at what a mammogram involves. It shows you what happens at a hospital and at a mobile unit, taking you step-by-step through the process. It also tells you what to expect after your appointment.

The NHS Breast Screening programme invites women in the UK aged 50 - 70 to attend screenings every three years. In England, this is being extended to ages 47 - 73 (each country in the UK has a separate programme). Even if you're not in this age group, it's essential to know the routine for checking your breasts at home, and follow it regularly. This video explains what to do and what to look out for.

Breast screening saves lives. What better time than this to make sure you know what it's all about?
