The Lancet has been an established medical journal for over 180 years. The founder, Thomas Wakley, announced in 1823:
"A lancet can be an arched window to let in the light or it can be a sharp surgical instrument to cut out the dross and I intend to use it in both senses".
The Lancet Global Health is not behind a pay-wall and does not require registration or fees to access. The articles are open-access and published under various Creative Commons licenses, selected by the respective authors.
