Help to initiate conversations about impaired sexual functioning as a result of cancer and its treatment

Course objectives

We know from patient surveys and research that people don't feel confident enough to ask for help and want their health or social care professionals to initiate the conversations. This course will help you to do that.

Learning outcomes

  • Develop the required communication skills.

  • Understand the need for assessment.

  • Know how to work with patients using case-based work.

  • Understand whether and when to raise the subject.

Dr Josie Butcher has a career in general practice, sexual medicine, psychosexual medicine and therapy with special interest in cancer and sexuality. Josie is a consultant and director of a psychosexual medicine and therapy NHS service and holds a service level agreement with The Christie Hospital Manchester. She offers supervision of staff working with oncology patients and help with difficult case management of patients with sexual problems related to their diagnosis and or treatment for cancer. She organises and develops study days for front line staff.
