An update on the role of food and nutrition in the development of cancer, and its role in supporting people living with and beyond cancer

Course objectives

The day will cover signposting and learning when to refer patients on to a dietitian. This is an interactive workshop which uses a variety of learning styles to update and refresh your practical knowledge of diet, nutrition and cancer.

Learning outcomes

  • Understand the current evidence base for the role of food and nutrition in the development of cancer.

  • Improve your knowledge of nutritional needs at different stages of the cancer pathway.

  • Develop a working knowledge of practical guidance to support people to live well by making small changes to their diet and lifestyle - using a person-centred behavioural approach.

  • Be aware of the evidence-based nutrition resources and practical tools available, and know when to refer on to a specialist dietitian.

Course Audience

This course is aimed at staff wishing to update their knowledge and become more confident in relation to diet, nutrition and cancer. It is suitable for both community and acute-based staff supporting people living with and beyond cancer


This Macmillan-led course is developed and coordinated by Jill Scott, a registered dietitian and learning and development manager, in partnership with the British Dietetic Association's specialist oncology group.
