We offer an array of fundamental courses that will help you negotiate difficult situations and improve your understanding of cancer care's ever-changing landscape.
Learn an evidence-based approach which is designed to enhance your skills of communicating effectively with people affected by cancer.
You will get plenty of opportunities to practice the things you learn in a safe and supportive environment.
- Recognise and practice key facilitative communication skills in a safe environment.
- Explore the role and the importance of patient cues and concerns.
- Learn how to confidently handle difficult situations based on your own professional experiences, eg end of life conversations, distress, difficult questions or difficult colleagues.
This course is for Macmillan professionals (up to band 6 and equivalent) communicating with people in difficult or distressing situations, e.g. when handling distress or anger, supporting people after bad news, talking about end of life. The course maps to KSF levels 2/3 and is tailored to meet the needs of the group(s) taking part.
The Maguire Communication Skills Training Unit has 30 years of expertise in communication skills research and training. The team of expert facilitators delivers a wide range of training suitable for all levels of staff; individuals or organisations. The Maguire unit is dedicated to promoting sensitive and effective communication; encompassing compassion, acknowledgement, respect, empathy, and dignity for patients and customers and which empowers the patient to make a fully informed choice based on their needs and preferences.
