When your role involves supporting people towards the end of their lives and their families, it's crucial that you receive the support you need too - and our palliative care courses can help.

Please Note: Please ensure you have the required equipment to take part; please join 10-15 minutes before the start time and if you are sent pre-work please ensure this is completed in good time before the session as you may not be able to attend the virtual workshop without completing it.

This 3.5 hour virtual classroom workshop is designed to provide an overview of Pain and Symptom Management. There will be the opportunity to explore more around the subject and talk about some of the myths surrounding pain management at End of Life.

The session will allow you to be able to have conversations and build your confidence and knowledge in relation to pain and symptom management and how to support the families and carers of people towards the end of life. The session will provide a forum for discussion and debate, with opportunities to learn, share and network with other professionals.

Who is it for? This session is at an introductory level and is for everyone especially if you are involved with supporting people towards the end of life or work with people living with cancer who have concerns about pain and symptom management towards the end of life and what this means. The session is for those who want to build their confidence in talking about pain and symptom management and to help others to do the same.

You may be in a registered or un-registered clinical post, information and support role or a managerial or project post. It is particularly aimed at those who want to build their knowledge and confidence in talking to patients, families and carers. The session is for those who are maybe interested in pursuing their career in specialist palliative and end of life care roles and for those who want to know more about the subject.

Aims:

During the virtual classroom we will aim to:

  • Have an understanding by what is meant by pain
  • Understand pain and its causes and how to recognise pain in others.
  • How we understand pain and recognising pain in others
  • Develop your knowledge in what the blockages are for taking pain seriously
  • Think about how pain is assessed and different depending upon the type of pain
  • Develop your understanding of the principals of prescribing
  • Think about how you can support and signpost symptom management other than pain
  • Have a greater understanding about manging the common symptoms associate with pain etc
