Professional coaching is a new addition to Macmillan's learning and development programme and is just one of the ways we're working with Macmillan Professionals to support them in their roles.
The pilots showed coaching to be particularly effective for participants who needed support with navigating change; stress/workload management; improving their work and home-life balance; strategic thinking; influencing skills and conflict management.
Crucially, participants on the pilot programme felt that as their organisational, communication and confidence levels improved they felt able to offer more focused, accessible and supportive services for people affected by cancer. Some service improvement examples related to the coaching included setting up new clinics and greater involvement in teaching/training other staff.
Coaching is open to all Macmillan professionals at all levels, provided you've been in post for a minimum of six months. We've developed an experienced network of professionally trained and accredited external coaches to provide this service across the UK.
