Schwartz rounds are a useful tool for health professionals working daily in a demanding and emotional environment, says Russ Hargreaves, Macmillan counsellor at Chelsea and Westminster hospital in London.
Schwartz rounds are a chance for staff to share their experiences with colleagues, talking about issues or situations that challenged them emotionally and receiving support from colleagues.
Hargreaves explains that being a health professional doesn’t mean that emotional situation should not affect you. Regular Schwartz rounds help professionals build their knowledge and confidence, which translates into better care for patients and healthier work relationships with colleagues.
