Living with the impact of cancer
Equip yourself with the vital skills you need to strengthen your relationships with people living with or beyond cancer and help them to self-manage more effectively.
Explore cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) - a practical and focused psychological treatment which has been shown to be highly effective in enhancing quality of life for people with chronic physical diseases such as cancer.
You will learn a simple and effective method of applying CBT to your day-to-day work.
- Develop practical skills and confidence in managing the emotional aspects of physical health conditions.
- Improve collaboration and relationships with people living with cancer.
- Develop skills in supporting patients to self-manage their condition.
- Improve adherence to shared management plans and treatment strategies.
This course is run over 4 days and the dates are:
7 September, 5 October, 2 November & 7 December in London
The course in Scotland is run from lunchtime to lunchtime. The dates are:
9-10 March, 20-21 April & 1-2 June in Edinburgh

Any Macmillan professional who wishes to develop their skills in using CBT methods. Participants are required to practice their skills in the workplace between course dates, and to develop case studies to support their learning. The fourth day of the course will be used to develop skills in fully integrating CBT into practice and to maximise the impact of this approach.
10 Minute CBT was established by Dr Lee David, a GP and CBT Specialist from St Albans, Hertfordshire. She is author of the textbook, Using CBT in General Practice: The 10 Minute CBT Handbook (2013). Her expertise lies in applying CBT principles in brief primary care consultations to improve management of mental and physical health conditions.
The course is facilitated by
Jeannie Bruce, a CBT therapist, psychotherapist and CBT trainer. She has an extensive portfolio which includes psycho-educational training, provision of outplacement support services, mediation, coaching, personal and group development and supervision.
Graham Price, a chartered psychologist and psychotherapist and experienced CBT practitioner and trainer. He has a particular interest in the use of acceptance as a therapeutic and change technique.
